DAIRY VISION - C2C
REIL has identified needs of the dairy vertical, through continous intraction with customers & provides a full spectrum of equipments. Use of RFID technology for cattle identification, veterinary terminals for cattle health, testing equipments at cooperative societies, e-sealing for transportation, RMRD docks at dairy plants, on-line hi-end milk analysis solutions to control and monitor hygiene and safety standards at dairy plants and product factories, ERP at dairy plant for business automation. All this has brought transparency and fairness in milk procurement and remuneration process at every stage of the chain, from cattle to consumer (C2C).
Cattle Monitoring through RFID Tag

Quality of milk is an important parameter, therefore it is necessary to give a separate identity to each cattle in order to distinguish them in terms of yield, so as to co-relate the milk yield and cattle-feed in order to get the maximum output. Hence There is a need for an optimum cattle management practice to obtain high quality yield from a healthy cattle.
1. Traditional Identifiers Used
TattoosPlastic ear tags
Metal ear tagsAdhesive tail tags
Temporary paint marks
2. The Changing Landscape… use of RFID tags for cattle
RFID technology uses radio waves to automatically identify people/objects. A microchip containing the serial number and other information is attached to the antenna . The antenna enables the chip to transmit the identification information to the reader. The reader converts the radio waves reflected back from the RFID tag in to digital information that can then be passed on to the computers for further use.
3. Features of RFID Tags for cattle
  • - The Dairy Industry is moving towards computerised recording and automation of information relating to the cattle through RFID Tags.
  • - Establishes the unique ID of the animal wearing the tag.
  • - RFID Tag can be used for recording milk yield of cattle.
  • - RFID tags have provision of recording information relating to consolidated milk yield, vaccinations, preventive medication etc.
  • - RFID Tags would enable the industry to implement full animal movement tracking.
  • - The information to farmers such as the date for Artificial Insemination (AI), pregnancy diagnosis, infertility checkup, vaccination, and history of ailments and medications will be available to farmers after the cattle identification.
4. Advantages of RFID tags
  • - Higher quantity & quality of milk yield.
  • - Monitoring of the individual cattle in respect of the yield and in respect of co-relation between cattle feed and corresponding yield.
  • - Automation of the monitoring process will eliminate recording errors.
  • - The computerized databases, can be used for statistical analysis and decision making on a long-term-basis.
Electronic Milk Testing, Data Processing

Initially, fat testing at DCS was conducted by a time consuming Gerber Method. This method has following disadvantages:
  • Handling of corrosive chemicals.
  • Use of different types of glassware.
  • Increased cost and the time taken to test the milk.
  • Scope for manipulation by the milk testers and collector on the quality and quantity of milk.
Hence there aroused a need for a transparent and fair method of measuring the quality and quantity of milk, in order to have extensive mass mobilization of farmers. This gave rise to the development of Electronic Milk Tester.
Advantages of Electronic Milk Testers
  • -Accurate and rapid analysis of milk.
  • -Fair and transparent method of milk testing.
  • -Boost to the dairy sector.
  • -Solved the problem of corruption by the middle man.
  • -Extensive mass mobilization of farmers.
  • -The use of SNF Tester has encouraged farmers to breed cows which are low in fat content, as a reliable method for testing of non-fat content in milk is available.
  • -Besides fat content in milk non-fat content also formed the basis of payment to farmers.
Electronic Data Processing: Need
An electronic milko-tester accurately and rapidly analyzes the fat content in the milk. However, it could not reduce the time taken in calculating the amount due to the farmers, since that had to be done manually. Hence, there was a need to develop develop a data-processor based milk collection system with real time data processing to avoid the problems associated with delayed computation.
Society Account Management System (SAMS)

Already familiar with benifits of automation through PCs, the societies looked forward to automation of their activities as well. REIL again responded to this need with the design, development and introduction of Society Accounts Management Systems (SAMS) for milk co-operatives and a Smart Card based variant as well.
This enables an electronic passbook to be available with every member of the village co-operative, containing detailed of all his transactions with the milk co-operative society.
Raw Milk Reception Dock

Raw-Milk Reception Dock Automation
  • -The milk is received at the dairy plant in large quantities from various milk co-operative societies. The transportation, collection and testing of milk at the dairy plants consume a lot of time.
  • -Milk being a perishable commodity need to be received and stored in a predefined time frame. The delay in milk reception damages the quality of milk and therefore results in losses to the dairies.
  • -Therefore a networked system is necessary for speedy unloading of milk, testing and payment.
  • -The RMRD system enables online milk reception at dairy plant. The system is fully networked to avoid manual handling of milk. The system also supports other feature like automatic data collection and report generation, slip print out of truck sheet on shift basis, reduction in manpower interference etc.
  • -The faster handling also increases the payment cycle to the societies..
Benefits of the RMRD System
  • -Quicker handling of milk through an automatic networked system.
  • -Retains the quality of the milk.
  • -Faster payment cycle to the village co-operative societies.
  • -Eliminates human intervention in milk handling.
  • -Reduction in cost and time.
